This morning I came across a verse I’m sure I’ve read several times both in Luke as well as in Isaiah. But for some reason it stood out to me this morning. The verse is, “To give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:79). This verse in Luke is quoted from Isaiah 9:2, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”
My bible study notes say of this great light, “Jesus and His salvation that would be a ‘light to the nations.'” Jesus already paved the way by being the “Great Light” when He fulfilled the plan of Salvation for us. Now it is our turn to let our lights shine. This won’t be hard to do because our little lights will become increasingly brighter as the world gets darker. Let us show, “Those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death” the light so they will no longer be lost and separated from God.
